What our Classroom Includes
Small Student/Teacher Ratio - 10:1 Experienced Teachers who have been employed with Children's Discovery, on average, 12 years! They offer a safe and supportive classroom for your child.
What our Program OffersA Daily Schedule that is structured, academically focused and fun! Weekly lessons and activities focus on a curriculum rich in reading, writing, math, science, art, music, sensory, cooking, computer, geography, multicultural projects, rhyming, nutrition, alliteration (example: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers), dramatic play (dress-up) and imaginative play (pretending).
American Sign Language will promote language development in your son/daughter. Teachers will show your Pre-Kindergarten student how to sign the alphabet, numbers, and basic vocabulary while saying the word out loud. Star of the Week - Your Pre-Kindergarten student will become the classroom's star of the week encouraging positive self-esteem. He/she will bring in items from home to share and introduce to the classroom. This is a great way to give your son/daughter lots of positive praise. Author of the Week - Your Pre-Kindergarten student will learn about a different author each week and read books written by that author. State of the Week - Each week, your child will learn about one state - state bird, flag, flower, locaion and capital city. Weekly Cooking Projects incorporate math, science, art, self-expression and multicultural learning. Multicultural Projects - teaching diversity & tolerance to your child through literature, art & music. Toys and Activities that are developmentally appropriate for your child & encourage building, painting, cutting, gluing, coloring, laughing, problem solving, singing, dancing, exploring...LEARNING! Enrichment Programs - Spanish, music, computer, dance, gymnastics, swimming & soccer lessons. Monthly Field Trips - Relate to classroom lessons, bringing a firsthand experience to your child. Bus services are arranged through a qualified company. Parents are responsible for signing a field trip permission slip which explains destination, reason for field trip, cost and time for each field trip taken. Social Development- Your Pre-Kindergarten student's friendships are becoming more important. He/she is encouraged by teachers to take turns, share, show respect, use good manners and resolve conflicts with his/her words. Emotional Development - Teachers coach self-help skills and use positive encouragement that will help build your child's self-esteem. Small Motor Development- Your Pre-Kindergarten student will spend time learning through building blocks, sorting beads, stringing beads, coloring, cutting, painting, using different media for art, play dough, pegboards and sensory tables. He/she will begin cutting with precision and using his/her own glue bottles for projects. Large Motor Development - Your Pre-Kindergartener will enjoy recess twice daily outside on our playground or inside in our gym. Activities will include running, jumping, climbing, hopping, ball play, dancing, tumbling, riding bikes, kicking balls, etc. |
